Here are our favorites:

Blueberries

Blueberries are a powerful antioxidant. This dark blue colour is linked to large amounts of phytonutrients called anthocyanidins. These phytonutrients help neutralize the damage caused by free radicals in our cells.

A recent study analyzed more than 50 common fruits and vegetables to obtain reliable scientific data on their antioxidant capacities. Blueberries have consistently ranked at the top of this list.

Blueberries also help reduce our risk of developing diseases related to cell redness. This includes a reduction in the risk of heart disease, cataracts, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, glaucoma and peptic ulcers. The American Institute for Cancer Research states: “We now know that blueberries are one of the best sources of antioxidants, substances that can slow the aging process and reduce cellular damage that can lead to cancer.

Raspberry

They contain significant amounts of polyphenolic antioxidants such as anthocyanin pigments that are associated with optimal health. These berries also contain a high proportion of dietary fibre. It is one of the foods of plant origin with the highest fibre content. Fiber represents about 20% of the total weight of the bay.

Raspberries are excellent sources of vitamin C, manganese and dietary fibre. They are also rich in B vitamins, folic acid, copper and iron. They have the highest concentration of antioxidants of all fruits.

Strawberries

There are over 600 varieties of strawberries on the planet, so you won’t need to look hard to find this deep red health stimulant. Strawberries are rich in antioxidant phytonutrients called phenols. Phenols are responsible for protecting us from disease and promoting good health.

Studies show that strawberries can also help protect the brain thanks to their powerful antioxidant capacity. Strawberries reduce macular degeneration in the eyes and are an excellent source of potassium, fibre, many B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese, iodine, omega-3 fatty acid, folate, magnesium and copper.

Blackberries

Blackberries are more than just powerful antioxidants. They have a high concentration of ellagic acid, a phenolic compound that helps lower the risk of cancer. They also contain high levels of soluble fibre known as pectin, a substance that studies the link with cholesterol lowering.

Haskap

The haskap is a serious competitor in the world of small fruit.
A breeding program on the Canadian Prairies is producing new varieties of berries from seeds that may soon attack the blueberry industry.

This niche crop is not only one of the last fruits to take over the berry world – it’s a small purple power plant that fuels an entire industry that should flourish in the coming years and perhaps give the blueberry industry value for money.

It already turns heads for its delicious taste, versatility and use in everything from wine to juice.
Early varieties are the first fruit crops to ripen, even before strawberries. The latest ones are ripe three weeks later.

The haskap needs pollen from another variety for fruit pollination.

The grapes

Classified in the berry family, even if it is a vine, the grape comes in different varieties and colours – green, red, blue, purple and black, all rustic in our region.

Prevent skin problems
It has been found that resveratrol prevents the signs of aging and other skin problems.

Grapes promote eye health. The inclusion of grapes in the diet results in a decrease in inflammatory protein levels and an increase in the amount of protective protein in the retina, which is the part of the eye that contains the light-responsive cells known as photoreceptors.
