Installing sod in Quebec: When and how?
Although the installation of sod is fairly straightforward, it’s important to follow a few basic rules to maximize the success of your installation. We strongly recommend installing your lawn in late summer or early fall when temperatures are cooler. However, it is possible to do it in summer, but you need to provide plenty of water and avoid heat waves at all costs. Here are three essential steps to follow for successful lawn installation:

Preparing the ground
Your soil must be ready to receive the sod rolls. Soil preparation is a step not to be neglected. First, add about 6 inches of lawn soil, then level your ground with a serrated rake. For a fine finish, use the flat side of the rake. Then compact the soil with a lawn roller, and add a high-quality root-forming fertilizer with a spreader.

Installing the sod rolls
Time is precious. When the sod rolls are delivered to your home, you need to install them without delay. Grass is a living plant that can’t afford to live without water and nutrients for long. To begin, unroll the first row of rolls at the back of the yard, and make sure the ends are tightly glued together, without overlapping. For the second row, start with half a roll to avoid the ends all coming to the same place. The aim is to create a brick effect. Use an exacto knife to make your cuts. Once you’ve installed all your rolls, you can run a lawn roller over your lawn so that the roots adhere well to the ground.
3.
Watering and maintaining your lawn
As soon as you have installed a pallet of sod, you can start watering. Once the installation is complete, it’s important to continue with abundant watering for the next 14 to 21 days. Limit trampling during this period. To maintain a healthy lawn, mow to a height of about 3 to 4 inches. Avoid mowing too short to limit weed growth. For a green lawn all summer long, spread a high-quality lawn fertilizer (21-0-9) every six weeks.
