We often think about our Christmas decor down to the smallest detail: the size of the tree, its style, the different ornaments that go with it… but we sometimes neglect to bring the experience to the kitchen. The holiday table is a great opportunity to surprise your guests with originality. For a change from the traditional checkered tablecloths, holly leaf napkins and gold plates, have you ever thought of adding plants to your arrangement? Here are a few ideas that will inspire you to create a festive and lively table.
Herbs: aromatic and decorative
Fresh herbs are most often associated with summer. However, they can be found in pots almost all year round in various specialty stores. Some varieties, such as rosemary and lavender, look like little trees that you can carefully decorate to adorn your table.
You can also use the branches to mark your guests’ seats or glasses, or to decorate your festive cocktails: a sprig of rosemary, a few cranberries and now even your sparkling water takes on a festive look!
Create a centerpiece or table runner in your image
Why not make your own centerpiece to match your decorating style. Depending on the size of your table, you can make it more or less massive and even spread it over the entire length of the table to make it the major focal point of your table. Be careful not to go too high so that the view is not obstructed on either side of the table.
For a traditional setting
- Make a Christmas tree with a string of multicolored lights. Add some poinsettia flowers, ornaments and a little artificial snow to add to the charm. You can even add a few candles on top.
For a natural setting
- Use birch branches (or another type of tree that has lost its leaves) that you can intertwine with a string of white mini LED lights. Very simple. Add a few pine cones, sliced oranges that you’ve candied in the oven and a few cinnamon sticks to complete the look and make the room fragrant. Extend the style to the place settings as well: natural coloured linen napkins on which you can place a small branch of fir or eucalyptus for a change, plain white plates without too many patterns: let’s go for a soft touch.
How about a complete change?
Do you want a complete change, to surprise your guests more than usual? Why not decorate your table with cacti and succulents? The offer in stores is impressive: colours, size, texture: everything is there to allow you to create mosaics that will surprise your guests.
- Line up pots of cactus in the center of the table, pass strands of lights wrapped in jute through them.
- Mark each place with a small fat plant placed in a container with the image of your guest: a cup, a small bowl, a glass. It’ll make a great memento of a memorable evening too.
- Play vertically by using floral foam to create shapes on which you will stick your succulents. Reproduce a tree, a star or the letters of a word with plants. Your guests will be amazed by your creativity!
We spend a lot of time at the Christmas table, chatting, laughing and sharing good times with our loved ones. Be sure to offer your guests a perfect place, decorated with care. Be creative, there is no lack of ideas.
