Alternatives to traditional Christmas trees

What would Christmas be without decorations? Think of garlands of lights, colourful Christmas ornaments, themed characters and, of course, the beautiful Christmas tree. Whether natural or artificial, small or large, the Christmas tree is undoubtedly the center of most Holidays decorations. Center, sure, but essential? Not necessarily. If you have a small space, looking for a change this year, or that the investment required to buy and decorate a christmas tree is not fitting into your budget this year, here are some ideas to create your Christmas decor without a tree, in its traditional form at least.

Wall decorations

When floor space is lacking, why not use vertical space? There are a ton of ideas to embellish your walls with ornaments. From frames and canvases to strings of lights, it’s easy to create a festive ambiance, at low cost. Make your holiday decor unique!
You can also recreate the tree effect, but in 2D by reproducing the specific triangle shape of the christmas tree. Think about using branches, wooden planks in different colours, frames with family pictures, your kids’ drawings, ornaments, lights… anything that’s in your house and may stimulate your creativity!

Hanging ornaments

Take advantage of the height to hang your Christmas decorations, directly on the ceiling or on a specially mounted structure. You can hang your ornaments, baubles of various shapes and sizes, lights, and other decors from invisible strings to create an uncluttered, airy Christmas decor.

You can also hang your decorations to branches at different levels. A ladder can create a very interesting fir tree effect, completely opposite to what you’re used to.

Different objects can be used to recreate the conical shape of the tree : stacked books, colourful gift boxes or baskets, wooden logs, feathers, plushies. Your best ally is, of course, your creativity.
