Choosing the right style for your Christmas decor

This year more than ever, we can’t wait to put up our Christmas decorations to bring warmth, light and especially, a lot of joy in our hearts and homes. With Halloween behind us, the time has come. Before launching into big projects, it is important to ask yourself what style you want to adopt for your holiday decor. With so much on display in stores and a growing number of inspiration websites, make sure you choose wisely: be true to your style, choose your theme and colours, and then stick to them as much as possible. However, there is nothing stopping you from falling in love! That’s what we call the magic of Christmas!

To inspire you

There are almost as many styles of Christmas decorations as there are people. Many people even manage to mix and match them to create new, personalized Christmas decorations. We have chosen 4 styles to inspire you:

The traditional Christmas decor

For many, Christmas is about tradition: big family gatherings, midnight Mass, children still sleeping and discovering with wonder the gifts under the tree. For these great enthusiasts, there is nothing better than the traditional one where red – obviously –, green and gilding are mixed. The big green tree, natural or permanent, crowned with an angel or a star and dressed with garlands, ornaments and of course multicoloured lights, is the central element of the decor. Checkered patterns, natural fabrics such as jute or wool, add warmth to it. We can also think of wreaths and other fir trees that decorate the doors and stair railings, without forgetting the mantle of the fireplace where the so much awaited Christmas stockings are hung, which make the happiness of children and adults. Far from us now is the time where the only thing we found there was an orange! Don’t forget to add a few candles here and there, poinsettias and holly branches: we want a sparkling Christmas, just like the good old days! For traditional decorations, red and green are the most common colours, with gold and shiny accents.

Sparkling in the spotlight

Did you say sparkling? Here, it’s the word of the day: shiny and sparkly! Silver, metallic colours of various shades, diamonds… we want all of it! The very bright LED mini-lights create a starry sky effect both in the tree and hung on the living room windows like a curtain. They add an even brighter and shinier touch to your Christmas decor. You can also find glass ornaments that take on different shades depending on the lighting. You can let your creativity run wild: stick different painted branches in the tree, add sparkling icicles, feathers even, why not! We want punch, glamour!

Monochrome decorations

A completely different style: a single colour dominates your holiday decor. Of course, it can be accompanied by a few accents, but always following a well-defined palette. The colour is up to you, there is something for everyone. This colour will be used everywhere: for globes and other tree ornaments, centerpieces, lights, and even gift wrapping! A strong trend for this look is the Ice Christmas. Inspired by Scandinavian countries, we use very cold colours for the creation of our holiday decor: steel blue and its variations of grey, silver and white. It’s like Christmas is covered in frost, and we love it! This trend is for everything: the tree, the table, even the furniture, which will be covered with a plush plaid or cozy wool. Nothing is left to chance to create a frosty, yet festive atmosphere.

The natural style

Softness is the key here, we stick to the natural: wood ornaments, pine cones, soft lights. White and beige are very present. Animals are also welcome, it’s time to bring out the bears, reindeer and deer and give them a place of choice in your decor. It’s cozy, warm, and it makes you feel good. You’ll want to drink a nice latte, wrapped up in a silky blanket, and admire the scenery on a snowy morning. Be creative: hang cinnamon sticks and candied orange slices on the tree. A few candles for ambiance, some pretty curtains of fine lights and you’re done. Not in the mood for a traditional tree this year? Opt for a lighted wooden structure hung on the wall. To complete your bohemian style, apply the technique to gifts as well: recycled paper, brown paper, fabric tied with string and you’re all set for a natural Christmas.
These are just a few examples of what you can do to spruce up your home for the holidays.
